U.S. Consulate General Shanghai Visa Appointments are Now "Limited"

In an official Public Notice recently released on the consulate's website, the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai announced that starting in the summer of 2025, renovations at Westgate Mall, located at 1038 West Nanjing Road, will begin to impact its ability to provide routine consular services to the public. These renovations will result in limited availability for both American Citizen Services and visa applicant appointments.

"Beginning in Summer 2025, renovations at the Westgate Mall, located at 1038 West Nanjing Road, will begin to impact U.S. Consulate General Shanghai's ability to provide routine consular services to the public.  Due to these renovations, American Citizen Services and visa applicant appointments are limited.  All U.S. visa applicants and American Citizen Services customers are advised to prepare for delays and potential disruptions to service beginning in Summer 2025."

As a result, U.S. citizens and visa applicants should anticipate potential delays and limitations in services. The consulate has advised individuals to consider alternative locations for their appointments, such as the U.S. Embassy in Beijing or consulates in Guangzhou, Shenyang, and Wuhan.

Those requiring American Citizen Services, such as U.S. passport renewals or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, are encouraged to schedule their appointments at other U.S. consulates or visit the consulate's official website for more details.
