MILAN, March 22 – Stealing a phone is never a good idea—especially if your target is a determined group of Chinese students!
One thief in Milan learned this the hard way after an unexpected 800-meter sprint.
According to the South China Morning Post, Koukou, a student from China's Yunnan province, was on the Milan subway when a thief grabbed her friend Bin's phone just as the train doors were about to close.
Acting fast, Koukou forced the doors open and shouted "STOP!" before taking off in pursuit, recording the entire ordeal on her phone.
The chase led them through multiple subway stations, with Koukou, Bin, and another friend, La, weaving through crowds while calling out descriptions of the suspect, who was dressed entirely in black—fitting for a villain.
Subway police quickly got involved, guiding them through different train lines in the search for the culprit. At one point, the group lost track of him and even mistook a few innocent passersby for the thief.
Just when the pursuit seemed to be at a dead end, a new lead directed them to platform 3. Spotting armed officers, Koukou realised how serious the situation had become. Then Bin spotted the suspect lurking on platform 5.
In a dramatic turn of events, a bystander in red—possibly a real-life superhero?—tripped the fleeing thief, giving police the perfect opportunity to make an arrest.
Bin's phone was recovered—slightly damaged but still working.
The officers even provided her with tissues and water to freshen up after the intense ordeal.
According to the South China Morning Post, theft in Italy can lead to a three-year prison sentence and a fine, but for these students, reclaiming their stolen phone was a priceless victory.
"Never mess with a Chinese woman," Koukou reportedly declared after the high-stakes chase.
The incident went viral on Chinese social media, amassing over two million likes and admiration from netizens.
Comments flooded in:
"These girls are incredible! Courage, quick thinking, and stamina—respect!"
"Word on the street: Local thieves now steer clear of Asian women."
One commenter even shared a similar experience: "While studying abroad, someone stole my phone, so I grabbed a shared bike and chased him down until I got it back.
My parents were terrified, but hey—I'm a Chinese woman. I don't give up!"
