In March 2025, an employee at Universal Beijing Resort was suspended following allegations of inappropriate physical interactions with visitors during role-playing activities.
The individual, portraying Charlie Chaplin, reportedly engaged in actions that made visitors uncomfortable, such as unexpectedly kissing a female guest and leaning on another while appearing to direct his gaze inappropriately.
Upon receiving complaints and reviewing shared videos and photos, the resort promptly suspended the employee and initiated an internal investigation to address the matter.
This incident is not isolated; in September 2021, another employee was detained and subsequently terminated for taking upskirt photos of female visitors at the park. The individual was apprehended by local police and received 10-day detention for his actions.
Universal Beijing Resort expressed deep regret over the incident, terminated the employee's contract, and established a special team to cooperate with the investigation, emphasising their commitment to visitor safety and privacy.
Universal Beijing Resort, which officially opened in September 2021, has faced several controversies since its inception, including issues related to staff conduct. The resort has acknowledged these challenges and has taken steps to enhance security measures and staff training to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests.
