China Carries Out Death Penalty on Four Canadian Nationals, Foreign Ministry Responds



On March 20, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed a press conference regarding Canada's condemnation of China's execution of four Canadian citizens earlier this year. The individuals were sentenced to death for their involvement in drug-related crimes.

A journalist from Agence France-Presse (AFP) questioned China on the specifics of the executions and requested a response to Canada's protest.


Mao Ning emphasized that combating drug-related offenses is a shared global responsibility. She reiterated that China is a country governed by the rule of law and treats all defendants equally, regardless of nationality. The spokesperson stated that the cases were handled strictly in accordance with Chinese legal procedures, ensuring the protection of the defendants' legal rights, including consular access for Canadian authorities.
