A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck Yongqing County in Langfang, North China's Hebei Province, early Wednesday morning. The tremor, centered 55 kilometers from Beijing, was felt across much of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported that the quake occurred at 1:21 a.m. at a depth of 20 kilometers. Following the event, the China Earthquake Administration initiated a third-level emergency response.

Residents in several areas of Langfang, including Yongqing, Gu'an, Bazhou, Anci, and Guangyang, experienced the tremors. However, communication, power, and transportation systems remained unaffected, and no casualties or property damage were reported. The Langfang City Emergency Management Bureau dispatched personnel to the epicenter for assessment, with updates to follow, according to Chinanews.com.

Several villages and towns lie within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter, which is located 13 kilometers from Yongqing County, 15 kilometers from Langfang's urban area, and 55 kilometers from Beijing.

Over the past five years, there have been eight earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or higher within 200 kilometers of the epicenter, with this being the strongest, according to CENC.

Following the quake, China's national earthquake early warning system promptly issued alerts. The WeChat mini-program "China Earthquake Networks Center" notified 251,692 users in surrounding areas, as reported by China Central Television.

People in Hebei, Beijing, and Tianjin reported significant shaking. Many users on Sina Weibo shared their experiences, with some stating they were awakened by their phone alerts. "The alarm went off just as I fell asleep," one person commented, while another wrote, "I thought I was imagining it."

Some university students in Beijing were startled by the quake and quickly evacuated to open areas for safety, as shown in a video clip published by Haike News.
