A 103-year-old woman in China has passed away after waiting over 80 years for her husband's return.
Du Huzhen died at her home in Guizhou province on March 8, her family announced, without specifying the cause.
Before her passing, she held a pillow cover from her 1940 wedding.
Her husband, Huang Junfu, left shortly after their marriage to serve in the Kuomintang army.
Du briefly joined him in 1943 but returned home after becoming pregnant. Their son, Huang Fachang, was born in 1944.
Huang returned home for his mother's funeral but soon rejoined the army, never returning.
His last known letter, dated January 15, 1952, indicated he was in Malaysia working for a Chinese construction company.
Despite his absence, Du remained devoted, rejecting remarriage and supporting her family through farm work and weaving.
Government records show Huang settled in Malaysia in 1950 and later moved to Singapore, but his fate remains unknown.
Du's family made extensive efforts to locate him, but without success.
Du's granddaughter, Huang Liying, said she passed away peacefully, as if envisioning a reunion with her husband.
The family vows to continue searching for Huang or his descendants.
