What's New in the Updated Passenger Code?

The new version of the Passenger Code includes several significant changes:

  • Removal of Child Limitations: Previously, passengers could bring up to two children on board for free. The new regulations have lifted this restriction, allowing passengers to travel with more than two children under the free ride benefit.

  • Increased Weight Limit: The allowable weight limit for items passengers carry has been increased from 23 kilograms to 30 kilograms.

  • Additional Behavioral Guidelines: New rules have been added to promote a better travel environment. Smoking electronic cigarettes and other disruptive behaviors are now explicitly prohibited.

The revised Passenger Code will remain in effect until February 28, 2030.

Why the Changes?

The changes were made in response to national policy adjustments and evolving passenger needs. The Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission explained that these modifications were made based on the "Urban Public Transport Regulations" and other relevant guidelines.

As we move towards a more modern and passenger-friendly transportation system, these updates will help create a smoother and more enjoyable experience for all who use Shanghai's metro system!
