The National Immigration Administration recently held a press conference to share the major immigration data and work progress for 2024. Here's a breakdown of the key statistics that affect foreign nationals.

In 2024, immigration management institutions across the country recorded a total of 610 million entries and exits, marking a 43.9% increase compared to the previous year. Among these, 291 million were mainland residents, 254 million were residents from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, and 64.88 million were foreign nationals, showing an impressive growth of 41.3%, 38.8%, and 82.9%, respectively.


In terms of foreign entry management, 2.597 million visas and permits were issued to foreign nationals, a 52.3% increase from last year. Additionally, 20.115 million foreign nationals entered China visa-free, a remarkable rise of 112.3%. 


On the government services front, the immigration service platform provided 130 million government service interactions, including inquiries and other services. Furthermore, free identity verification services were provided to 34.07 million Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan residents, overseas Chinese, and foreign nationals.


The 12367 helpline, which supports both Chinese and foreign nationals, handled over 7.08 million calls, receiving a 99.36% satisfaction rate on average.


In 2024, authorities also cracked down on 35,000 border control-related criminal cases, resulting in the arrest of 79,000 suspects and the dismantling of 906 criminal gangs. Notably, 328 major cases were given special attention, with 518 fugitive criminals arrested. 


Law enforcement also targeted illicit activities along the border, including gun violence, drug trafficking, and smuggling. Authorities seized over 7.8 tons of drugs, including 105 major drug cases involving quantities exceeding 10 kilograms, and 2,000 firearms with over 100,000 rounds of ammunition.
