According to the announcement, the park will temporarily close after its final operating hours at 5:00 PM on January 25, 2025, to begin its comprehensive renovation. The goal of this transformation is to enhance the overall quality of the park, providing visitors with a superior recreational experience. The revamped park is expected to reopen in 2027.

Jinjiang Amusement Park, which first opened in October 1984, was Shanghai's first large-scale professional amusement park. Spanning an area of 103,000 square meters, it features over 30 major attractions, including the iconic "Shanghai Ferris Wheel," the first Ferris wheel in China to exceed 100 meters in height.

During Shanghai's 2025 Two Sessions, Zhang Qi, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, revealed that, in addition to the LEGO-themed park set to open this May, Shanghai is also preparing for the arrival of Harry Potter and Peppa Pig-themed parks.

Regarding the Harry Potter theme park, local media reports have highlighted a significant development. In April 2024, the Minhang District Government mentioned in a publicly disclosed proposal that Jinjiang Amusement Park is planning to collaborate with Warner Bros. Discovery to introduce the "Harry Potter Studio Tour" experience as part of its upgrade. The project promises a fully immersive recreation of iconic movie scenes, blending indoor and outdoor attractions in a comprehensive redevelopment of the area.

Sources close to the matter have indicated that the Harry Potter-themed park is set to be officially announced soon. If confirmed, this would make it the third Harry Potter theme park in the world, following those in London and Tokyo.

As for the fate of the park's iconic Ferris wheel, it has been confirmed that it will not be demolished. Instead, plans are underway to upgrade the attraction, increasing its height from 108 meters to 168 meters, further solidifying its status as a Shanghai landmark.
