The 24-year-old, named Xiaolong, hails from Liaoning province in northeastern China. Since 2018, he has extensively tattooed his body, including his face, neck, limbs, and even the sclera of his left eye, with a skull design.

At the time, Xiaolong was in a rebellious phase and viewed tattoos as a way to express his frustration. "I was unhappy back then and used tattoos to channel that anger," he shared.

However, the tattoos have created significant challenges, particularly in his career. "Over the past six years, they've caused a lot of problems for both my family and me," he said. "It's been hard to find a job, and I constantly face mockery during my livestreams. Even routine activities like renewing my ID or using facial recognition are uncomfortable and inconvenient."

Faced with these struggles, Xiaolong decided to delete his social media accounts, start the process of tattoo removal, and pursue a fresh start.

Now living in Hebei province, Xiaolong sought out a tattoo removal expert named Yang, based in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, to remove a small tattoo from his hand in October. By mid-December, he was back in Changzhou, ready to begin removing the tattoos from his face.

The removal process has been especially challenging. Xiaolong experienced intense pain and heart discomfort, which forced him to pause the treatment and return to Hebei to recover before continuing. "This is one of the hardest tattoo removals I've ever performed," Yang commented.

Although the cost of the procedure has not been disclosed, Xiaolong remains determined to move forward. "I regret it so much now. What seemed cool at the time doesn't seem worth it anymore. I just want to live a normal life," he said.

Xiaolong's story has sparked a range of reactions online. Some people criticized his decision. One commenter wrote, "In ancient China, criminals had their crimes tattooed on their faces. Why would you voluntarily do this to yourself?" Another warned rebellious youth, saying, "If you want to look cool, try temporary tattoos. Permanently altering your appearance is just foolish." However, some expressed support, with one person encouraging him: "Erase the tattoos, start fresh, and good luck with your new beginning!"
