Chinese actor Wang Xing has been reported missing after losing contact near the Thailand-Myanmar border on Friday, according to a netizen claiming to be his girlfriend, Jiajia. In a Weibo post on Sunday, Jiajia stated, "After joining a film crew in Thailand, he lost communication near the Thailand-Myanmar border at noon on January 3."
Despite efforts by Jiajia and Wang's brother, progress in the case has been limited. On Monday, a staff member from the Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai confirmed to Jimu News that they had received a call for assistance from Wang's family on Friday. "We responded promptly and have maintained communication with the family. We will continue to monitor the situation and do our best to protect the safety and legal rights of Chinese citizens within our capacity," the staff member said.
The post suggests that Wang may have fallen victim to a scam, as other actors reportedly received casting invitations from the same group in Thailand, raising concerns about potential fraudulent activity. Wang has starred in several popular TV series and films in China, including "Ip Man 3." Following the social media post, several celebrities, including actor Gong Jun, have shared the message and expressed their well-wishes for Wang's safe return. Gong Jun commented, "He is a talented actor with strong work ethics. I wish him safety and well-being."
