A 68-year-old foreign man was arrested in Macau recently after attempting to smuggle heroin worth approximately 7 million Macanese Patacas into Hong Kong via Australia. The man was apprehended by the Macau Judicial Police (PJ) following a tip-off and the seizure of 5 kilograms of heroin. The arrested individual, identified as Novorusov, a 68-year-old engineer, is suspected of being involved in the illegal trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances. The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutor's Office for further investigation. In a joint statement, the PJ and Macau Customs revealed that through intelligence-sharing with customs authorities in Thailand, Hong Kong, and Macau, they learned about a cross-border drug trafficking syndicate planning to smuggle drugs into Macau via air transport. Acting on this intelligence, the PJ monitored and investigated the foreign national arriving in Macau from Thailand. Upon arrival, the man was found to be carrying suspicious luggage that was believed to contain drugs. He checked into a hotel in the central district and did not leave, indicating that he might be awaiting further instructions from the trafficking syndicate. Later, the police observed the man leaving the hotel with his luggage and heading to the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, where he purchased a ferry ticket to leave. The police intercepted him and discovered a large quantity of heroin hidden inside biscuit and coffee packaging. The estimated street value of the drugs is around 7 million MOP. The investigation is ongoing.
