Chongqing and Sichuan immigration authorities have signed a new agreement to simplify visa processes and improve services for foreign nationals and businesses in both regions.
Recently, the Chongqing and Sichuan immigration authorities jointly signed a document focusing on areas such as immigration, residency, and talent exchange. The initiative aims to fully develop a new, convenient immigration cooperation channel between the two regions, providing more accessible services for local residents and foreign-related enterprises.
1. Ongoing Enhancement of Border Visa Cooperation For foreign nationals requiring entry into China for purposes such as business cooperation, visits, investments, family reunification, or personal matters—including urgent situations like funerals or visits to critically ill relatives—travelers can now choose to enter China through border points in either Sichuan or Chongqing. This initiative offers uniform visa services at both locations, eliminating restrictions based on flight arrival points or invitation locations. 2. Promotion of "Sichuan-Chongqing Cooperation" for Foreign Group Tourist Visas Chongqing and Sichuan will cooperate through information sharing, mutual recognition of qualifications, and coordinated management to facilitate cross-regional tourist group activities. This will create flexible and diverse inbound travel routes for foreign tourist groups, enhancing the international appeal of the Sichuan-Chongqing area as a tourist destination. 3. Simplified Visa Extensions, Renewals, and Re-issuance Foreign nationals who need to stay longer in Sichuan or Chongqing can now apply for visa extensions, renewals, or re-issuance at any immigration office in the two regions. Furthermore, high-level foreign talent, with approval from their primary and part-time employers, can register with local immigration authorities in either city and engage in cross-regional employment or innovation. 4. Reduced Processing Times for Document Issuance A series of new services has been introduced to streamline procedures for residents of both regions. These include cross-regional processing for ordinary passports, Hong Kong-Macau travel permits, and Taiwan travel permits, with processing times now reduced from 20 days to just 7 working days.
