According to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center, the yellow alert for air pollution was activated at 9 PM on December 25, and Level III emergency response measures have been put in place. The city is expecting moderate air pollution, particularly due to the accumulation of pollutants from nearby areas and local weather conditions.
The authorities have issued specific advice for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with heart or respiratory diseases. They are encouraged to reduce or avoid extended outdoor activities, particularly strenuous exercise. The general public is advised to limit outdoor exposure, and outdoor workers are urged to take necessary precautions.
To combat the pollution, Shanghai is implementing several actions at the municipal and district levels. These include:
Green energy scheduling for electricity use
Limiting industrial production and emissions
Halting work at construction sites with potential dust pollution
Intensifying road cleaning and prohibiting construction vehicles from operating
Banning outdoor burning of straw and waste, outdoor barbecues, and firecrackers
Suspending outdoor physical education classes and outdoor activities at schools and daycare centers
Additionally, the public is encouraged to conserve electricity, use public transportation instead of private cars, and refrain from outdoor sports events that could contribute to further pollution.
The air quality forecast predicts a moderate pollution process in Shanghai between the night of December 25 and December 27, primarily driven by local weather conditions and the transport of pollutants from upstream areas. Here are the key air quality predictions:
December 25 (night): Light pollution, with PM2.5 levels.
December 26 (morning): Light to moderate pollution, with PM2.5 as the primary pollutant.
December 26 (afternoon): Moderate pollution, with PM2.5.
December 26 (night): Light to moderate pollution, with PM2.5.
December 27: Light pollution, with PM2.5.
December 28: Good air quality, with PM2.5.
