& feedback from local expats

A one-stop service center for foreigners, working in Hunan was set up back in 2021 by local authorities. Expats are able to get their visas and medical checks all sorted in one place. The center offers streamlined services to process documents including health certificates for international travel, work permits and residence permits, cutting the total waiting time from 30 working days to as few as 10.Previously, expats needed to go through three government departments -- customs, science and technology, and public security -- for the documents required to work in China."We used to go to three different places to apply for a visa, which took time and energy. Now we can finish it all in the same building. It's so convenient in Changsha," said Russian expat Ilya Fokin, the first foreigner to use the one-stop services. Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Department official said the department will continue to provide high-quality services for foreign experts working in Hunan.
Do I need an appointment?
No, but it would help to book one in advance using the official wechat account (scan the code below).
When can I go there?
Mornings, Mondays to Fridays. Afternoons may be too late for any mandatory blood tests.
Where do I get my results from?
The same centre on the date on the receipt you're handed, although there is a delivery service desk who can send on the final certificate to a local address.
When is best to go there?
We advise midweek as Mondays and Fridays tend to be busiest.
How long does it take?
A rough estimate would be around two hours. The test rooms are situated on two levels of the building (X ray ground floor, all other tests upper floors).
What do they test me for?
Blood tests: Check for blood type, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, and liver function; Chest X-ray screens for tuberculosis; Electrocardiogram (ECG) checks heart health; Ultrasound targets body organs and their status; eyesight, weight and finally a urine test detects any underlying health issues as well as exposure to illegal drugs.
How do I book an appointment?
Scan the QR code above to follow the Official Wechat Account. Choose the option (highlighted) and follow the bilingual appointment steps.
TIPS:
Take your returning address for any delivery, if you choose it. Also, have all other addresses, contacts details and full company names if getting a Z or similar visa. Don't forget your passport (obviously). Cash or Wechat/Alipay for the test - typically around 500RMB.
Take at least one passport sized photo (this may only be needed if you use the home delivery service).
