Foreigners Soon Able to Enter Shanghai Visa-Free for 30+30 Days, IF...

On November 6, at the 7th China International Import Expo's Hongqiao International Economic Forum, Shanghai announced a groundbreaking policy for foreign travelers in the Pudong New Area.

Foreign visitors will soon be able to stay visa-free for 30 days within a designated zone in the new "Oriental Hub" business cooperation area, with an option to extend for another 30 days.

If needed, travelers can also apply for a visa within the zone, greatly facilitating international business activities, exhibitions, and training programs.

Pudong: A Magnet for Global Investment

At the event, Pudong's District Mayor, Wu Jincheng, highlighted the area's strong appeal for foreign investments. Already home to around 28,000 foreign enterprises, Pudong hosts nearly half of Shanghai's multinational company headquarters and foreign R&D centers. In 2023 alone, its foreign trade amounted to approximately $360 billion, attracting an annual foreign investment of about $10 billion. With around 60% of Shanghai's trade volume, 70% of financial institutions, and 90% of the city's container throughput, Pudong is solidifying its role as an international business hub.

New Developments: Disney Expansion and High-Impact Projects

Pudong has multiple large-scale projects underway, including the development of the "Eastern Joy City" Disney expansion over a 2.77 square kilometer area. Alongside Disney, the 7-square-kilometer Oriental Hub business cooperation zone and the "Golden Central Ring" project covering 24 million square meters will provide extensive space for high-end manufacturing, financial services, information technology, entertainment, and creative industries. A new riverside internet industry cluster, spanning 900,000 square meters, is also expected to boost growth in digital sectors.

Visa-Free Access: Driving International Engagement

Set to launch in 2025, the visa-free policy in the Oriental Hub is a transformative step toward promoting international exchanges. By easing entry requirements, Pudong aims to create an environment where foreign companies and professionals can engage seamlessly in cross-border discussions, exhibitions, and meetings
