Recently, a foreigner in China captured and shared a video showing individuals allegedly collecting "gutter oil" from a roadside. The footage quickly went viral, igniting widespread discussion among netizens.
In the video, the foreigner spotted two individuals using tools to extract oil from the ground. When he began recording, one of the individuals attempted to stop him, saying, "Don't film." Meanwhile, the other loaded the collected oil into a truck. The foreigner firmly responded, "This is China. You can't tell me not to film. I can record anything on the street." He went on to condemn their actions, calling it "disgusting." When questioned, one of the individuals vaguely claimed, "This is for a company." The foreigner retorted forcefully, "I don't care!" The two workers then hastily packed up and prepared to leave. In his frustration, the foreigner, using a mix of English and limited Chinese, berated the workers, saying, "You are garbage! You are monkeys! You're giving people this kind of oil!" He also declared, "I will show everyone who you are!" before the workers drove away. The video ended with the foreigner filming the site where the oil was being collected, questioning whether such oil could be used for human consumption. He repeated his condemnation, describing the workers as "bad people" and "monkeys." The video sparked a wave of online reactions. Some netizens praised the foreigner's outburst, with one saying, "His words are cleaner than the oil they collected." Another commented, "His righteous stance can't stop their dirty hearts." However, others offered a different perspective, suggesting that the collected waste oil might not be for cooking but rather for industrial purposes, such as biodiesel production. They noted that since restaurants operate during the day, conducting such activities at night might be a way to avoid causing unnecessary trouble.
