BREAKING: China's National Public Holidays to Increase by 2 Days!

The State Council, under the signature of Premier Qiang LI, has recently issued a new regulation, the Decision on Amending the Measures for National Holidays and Commemoration Days (hereinafter referred to as the Decision), which will come into effect on 1 January 2025. The Decision comprises two main provisions.

Firstly, the number of public holidays for all citizens is increased by 2 days, namely Chinese New Year's Eve and May 2nd. With this addition, the Chinese New Year holiday will now be 4 days long (from Chinese New Year's Eve to the third day of the lunar new year), and the Labor Day holiday will be 2 days (May 1st and May 2nd).

Secondly, the public holidays can be reasonably arranged to form longer breaks when combined with paid annual leave and other leave policies. Except in special circumstances, the consecutive working days before and after statutory holidays should generally not exceed 6 days

With these changes, the total number of statutory public holidays for all citizens will increase from 11 days to 13 days.
