Big Change for Air Travel & Reimbursements Starting Dec 1!

Starting December 1, 2024, passengers in China's civil aviation sector will no longer need to print their tickets for reimbursement purposes. 

This update follows a recent joint announcement by the State Taxation Administration, the Ministry of Finance, and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, introducing a fully digital "Electronic Itinerary Receipt for Air Transport." This initiative aims to streamline travel reimbursements and enhance convenience for both travelers and organizations.

Once the electronic itinerary receipt is widely adopted, travelers can enjoy a more automated, intelligent issuance and delivery process tailored to various needs. This digital approach eliminates the need for physical receipts, saving both time and the cost associated with mailing paper copies.

For corporate finance teams, electronic itinerary receipts will allow for paperless reimbursement, accounting, archiving, and storage. With this system, companies can handle reimbursement entirely online. Additionally, organizations will have access to an e-invoice service platform where they can view the VAT (Value-Added Tax) on each itinerary and easily select it for deduction—eliminating the need for tedious price conversions, thereby reducing workload.

The reduction in paper receipt usage will significantly cut the costs related to printing, issuing, voiding, system maintenance, and mailing, which will contribute to overall efficiency.

To ease the transition, a grace period has been set from December 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. During this period, physical and electronic receipts, along with other invoice types, will be used in parallel. However, it's important to note that only one type of receipt can be issued per transaction; physical and digital receipts, as well as other forms of invoices, cannot be duplicated.

This move marks a significant step towards digital transformation in China's civil aviation sector, bringing convenience and cost savings to travelers and companies alike.
