The Harbin Public Transportation and Taxi Development Center has recently issued a notice regarding the organization of English language training for public transportation and taxi drivers. On October 27, the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism released a video featuring taxi drivers in Harbin attending a collective English class. According to the notice displayed in the video, the Harbin Public Transportation and Taxi Development Center initiated this training program in anticipation of the upcoming Asian Winter Games. The goal is to enhance service quality for both domestic and international guests and athletes. To facilitate better communication, the center has identified essential everyday English phrases for drivers to learn, including "Hello," "Welcome to Harbin," "Good morning," "Where to?" and "Get in please ." Public response to the initiative has been overwhelmingly supportive. Many netizens expressed their approval of the program; some also suggested that, in addition to learning basic English, drivers should be trained on how to use translation apps, as quickly mastering a new language can be challenging. What are your thoughts on this initiative? Feel free to let us know in the comments section.
