The pungent smell raised suspicion, and a reagent test confirmed a positive result for cannabis. The substance weighed a total of 7.25 grams and was further verified as cannabis by a professional lab. The case has since been handed over to the anti-smuggling authorities for further investigation.
Cannabis is listed in China's Narcotic Drugs Catalogue (2013 Edition) and is strictly controlled as a narcotic. China enforces stringent regulations on narcotic plants, and the possession, smuggling, trafficking, transportation, or manufacturing of such drugs is criminalized under Article 347 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China. Regardless of the amount, those involved in these activities face criminal charges and penalties.
