Recently, the State Council Information Office held a press conference where the Ministry of Education addressed questions regarding the opening-up of education to the outside world.

A reporter from Phoenix TV raised concerns about the push for greater international engagement in education. The National Education Conference emphasized the importance of advancing education openness by balancing the "bringing in" and "going out" strategies. The reporter inquired about key initiatives to promote high-level educational exchange.
Deputy Minister of Education Wu Yan responded that currently, 85 countries have integrated Chinese into their national education systems, with over 200 million international learners and users of the language. Additionally, students from 195 countries and regions are studying in China, with the proportion of degree-seeking students rising above 60%.
To enhance the "bringing in" approach, two major strategies will be implemented:
  1. At the school level, China will effectively utilize top-tier international educational resources and innovative elements by attracting outstanding foreign universities, particularly in STEM fields, to collaborate on high-quality Sino-foreign cooperative education programs.
  2. Regarding international students, efforts will be intensified to strengthen the "Study in China" brand and capabilities, particularly at "Double First-Class" universities, to attract exceptional talent from abroad for study and exchange in China, thus enhancing the cultivation and gathering of top talents globally.
Furthermore, in terms of youth exchange, over the next three years, China plans to launch 800 key international summer school projects. In the next five years, the goal is to invite 50,000 American teenagers to China for exchange programs, along with inviting 10,000 French youths and doubling the number of European youth participating in exchanges. These initiatives aim to deepen interactions between Chinese youth and their peers worldwide, further solidifying the foundation for mutual understanding and connection among young people across the globe.
