On September 4, it was reported that the Taobao app will soon offer full support for WeChat Pay.

In fact, the integration of WeChat Pay with Taobao has been in the works for nearly a year. As early as October 2023, some users noticed the option for "WeChat QR Code Payment" on the Taobao payment page, with the added feature to "ask a friend on WeChat to pay." Taobao responded by stating that the WeChat QR Code Payment function was being gradually rolled out, initially available only to a limited number of users and for specific products. The availability of this payment option depended on what was displayed on the payment page.
In early 2024, several users discovered that some Taobao orders could be paid directly via WeChat Pay. When contacted by media, Taobao's online customer service confirmed that WeChat Pay was a newly introduced service that was being gradually made available for Taobao orders. It was initially accessible to a limited user base and only for certain products. However, customer service assured that the function would eventually be fully rolled out, though the exact timeline was not specified.
This move reflects a broader trend among major companies in the industry, including Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, Meituan, Alipay, Douyin, Kuaishou, and The Little Red Book, who are breaking down barriers to enhance connectivity. The "interconnectivity" approach has become a shared goal among these internet giants. For instance, Meituan has already integrated Alipay mini-programs for delivery and hotel services and initiated joint operations.
The push for interconnectivity between platforms and payment tools aims to improve payment convenience and stimulate consumer spending while adhering to regulatory requirements for connectivity.
