Elon Musk Reportedly Buys a $150 Million Luxury Property in Beijing

On the morning of September 5th, multiple real estate agents in Beijing posted videos on social media, claiming that Elon Musk had purchased a luxury property in Beijing for $150 million. The reports indicate that the purchase was made for an aerial courtyard house located in the exclusive No. 8 Xiaoyun Road area.

Several real estate agents responsible for the sale of properties in this upscale neighborhood confirmed to Lanjing News that the information is genuine, stating that Musk had indeed bought the top-floor courtyard residence. When the sales office at No. 8 Xiaoyun Road was contacted, staff refused to confirm the rumors, citing confidentiality concerns regarding the disclosure of owner information, stating it was "inconvenient to reveal details about the owners."

According to a report by People's Daily in 2015, the pricing for the aerial courtyard homes at Hesheng Xiaoyun Road No. 8 ranges from 360,000 to 500,000 RMB per square meter. Based on this calculation, the total price of a single unit in this luxury development would be between 360 million and 500 million RMB (approximately $50 million to $70 million).

If confirmed, Musk's acquisition would be one of the highest-profile purchases in Beijing's luxury real estate market, drawing significant attention to the city's exclusive housing offerings. However, as of now, no official confirmation has been provided by Musk or his representatives regarding the purchase.

In response to the news, many netizens raised questions about how Musk was able to obtain Beijing's property purchase qualifications, as these are notoriously stringent even to Chinese.
