World's Most Powerful Passport in 2024: This Country Claims the Title
In a recent update, Singapore has reclaimed the top spot as the most powerful passport in the world for visa-free entry in 2024.
On July 23, the Henley Passport Index published its latest data on the global ranking of passports for visa-free entry. According to the new data, Singapore has emerged as the sole leader, offering visa-free entry to 195 out of 227 travel destinations in 2024.
Previously, in January 2024, Singapore shared the top position with five other countries—France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain—each allowing visa-free entry to 194 destinations. However, these five countries have now slid to second place, with visa-free entry to 192 destinations each.
In 2023, the Singaporean passport allowed visa-free entry to 192 destinations. This number has increased by three, bringing the total to 195 destinations for the latest ranking in 2024.

For the first time, the United Arab Emirates has made it into the top 10, offering visa-free entry to 185 destinations.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Afghanistan remains the world's weakest passport, with visa-free access to only 26 countries.
Christian Kaelin, chair of Henley & Partners, highlighted in a statement: "The global average number of destinations travelers are able to access visa-free has nearly doubled from 58 in 2006 to 111 in 2024. However, the global mobility gap between those at the top and bottom of the index is now wider than it has ever been."
The Henley Passport Index, a quarterly ranking created by the London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners, has been published for 19 years since 2006. The exclusive data used for the ranking is obtained from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
