Recently, a netizen posted on social media that WeChat might automatically delete unread messages from three days ago. In this regard, Tencent has responded. When chatting on WeChat, chat records such as received and downloaded (viewed) images, videos, files, text, voice messages, expressions, etc. will be permanently saved on the current device and can be viewed permanently.
According to Tencent, all received and downloaded chat records—including images, videos, files, text, voice messages, and emojis—are permanently stored on the device and can be viewed indefinitely. However, there are 3 situations that may result in the inability to view the relevant records: 1. Unreceived messages will be automatically retained by the WeChat server for 3 days, and will be automatically cleaned up after 3 days, after which they can no longer be received. 2. Select Manage Chat Records in WeChat Storage, the operation will clean up the pictures, videos, files, etc. in the chat records; 3. Using some mobile phone software to clean up WeChat data will cause pictures to expire or become invalid. Tencent customer service also specifically reminds users that chat records contain personal privacy, and WeChat servers do not save any of a user's chat records. Once the data is erased, it will not be recoverable without backup. Therefore, when using WeChat, users should take care to preserve and back up chat records to prevent the loss of important information.
