Shanghai Metro Offers Free Luggage Storage Services

  Shanghai Metro has introduced a pilot self-service luggage storage service at 24 locations across 12 metro stations. 

  The trial runs until the end of August, offering free storage for up to 8 hours per use. Storage locations are within fare zones, and passengers must go through security and purchase tickets before using the service. Provided by XiaoIron and Hive Box, the service can be accessed via their mini-programs.

  The first batch of 12 stations are located near transport hubs, commercial areas and tourist attractions, including:

2.People's Square

3.South Shaanxi Road Station 

4.Nanjing East Road Station

5.Hongqiao Terminal 2

6.Yuyuan Garden

7.Dashijie (Great World) Station

8.Lujiazui Station

9.Site of the First CPC National Congress, Huangpi South Road Station

10.Qufu Road Station

11.Oriental Sports Center

12.Longyang Road Station

  The 24 storage locations feature 332 lockers in three sizes: small, medium and large lockers. Small lockers can hold items the size of a backpack, medium lockers can hold a 20-inch suitcase and large lockers can hold up to a 28-inch suitcase.

  During the trial period, free luggage storage is provided for up to 8 hours. Passengers using this service must pay a deposit of 20 yuan ($2.76) through the mini-programs. The deposit will be refunded after the storage period ends.

  For luggage stored beyond 8 hours or overnight, customer service will contact the passenger to handle the situation accordingly.

  The self-service storage can be easily accessed by scanning the QR codes using WeChat or Alipay. Simply follow the instructions for a quick and easy storage process. Passengers can also check the availability of storage locations in real-time on the mini-programs.

Instructions

  In the future, Shanghai Metro will also enable passengers to search for and access self-service storage points through the "Metro 大都会" app.

  Starting in September, Shanghai Metro will officially launch the luggage self-service storage service. The charging rates will be 2 yuan per hour for small lockers, 4 yuan per hour for medium lockers, and 5 yuan per hour for large lockers, with a maximum daily charge of 12 yuan (small), 24 yuan (medium), and 30 yuan (large) for every 24 hours.

Special reminders

1.All 24 storage locations at the 12 metro stations are located within the fare zones. Passengers must go through security checks before storing their luggage.

2.Stored luggage must comply with metro security requirements. Storing flammable, explosive, toxic, or other prohibited items is strictly forbidden.

3.During the trial period, the self-service luggage storage provides a maximum of 8 hours of storage. Please retrieve your luggage on time.

4.Luggage storage service hours are synchronized with the stations' operating hours. The storage service is only available during the stations' operating hours. Please pay attention to the stations' first and last train times.

5.In case of an emergency, passengers can contact the relevant storage service providers through the 24-hour customer service hotlines 【XiaoIron: 400-1020-932】or 【Hive Box: 95333】.

6.During the trial period, passengers are welcome to provide feedback through on-site staff, the Shanghai Metro service hotline (021-64370000), or the official Weibo account of Shanghai Metro. The operators will continually optimize related services based on actual conditions.
