New High-Speed Rail Line, 160km/h, to Link SH's Airports & MORE by Year-End

On August 16th, the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission announced the pricing mechanism for the city's urban rail lines, set to be implemented at the end of this year. A public hearing is scheduled for September 2nd to gather feedback and suggestions on the proposed fare plans. The first section of the highly anticipated airport link line, connecting Pudong and Hongqiao airports, is expected to be operational by the end of the year, with the full journey priced at 26 yuan.

Fare Structure: Two fare schemes will be presented at the hearing. The first is a flat fare of 0.45 yuan per kilometer, while the second adopts a tiered pricing model, where the cost decreases as the distance increases, ranging from 0.48 yuan to 0.4 yuan per kilometer. Both schemes have a starting fare of 4 yuan.

Discounts and Offers: Passengers transferring from urban rail lines to other metro or bus services will enjoy transfer discounts and monthly spending bonuses. For frequent travelers, a pre-paid card option can be available, offering a 30% discount on the standard fare.

Cost and Time Efficiency: The airport link line offers significant time savings. For example, traveling from Hongqiao Airport to Pudong Airport will cost 26 yuan and take just 40 minutes. In comparison, the same trip on Metro Line 2 costs 8 yuan but takes over twice as long, while the airport bus costs 36 yuan and takes more than an hour.

Operational FeaturesThe high-speed rail line is equipped with convenient amenities such as luggage storage areas, power outlets, and charging ports. Additionally, there are designated spaces within the carriages for wheelchair users. The train is designed to reach a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour, ensuring swift travel across the city.

The line features several stops between Hongqiao Station and Pudong Airport Station, including Qibao Station, Huajing Station, Sanlin South Station, Zhangjiang Station, Disney Resort Station, and Shanghai East Station. Moreover, passengers can easily transfer to the metro and maglev lines, enhancing the connectivity and convenience of the route.

The public hearing on September 2nd will include 19 participants and several substitutes and observers who registered voluntarily. This hearing aims to ensure that the fare structure aligns with public expectations and travel needs.

The introduction of these urban rail lines, particularly the airport link, is set to enhance the convenience, speed, and cost-effectiveness of travel across Shanghai, offering residents and visitors a highly competitive alternative to existing transportation modes.
