Man Got Penalty for Using VPN to Access Foreign Websites Four Years Ago
On August 7, the Network Security Brigade of the Shouning County Public Security Bureau, in collaboration with the National Security Brigade, successfully cracked down on an illegal international networking case.
In early July, during routine inspections, the police discovered that Mr. Gong had been engaging in illegal activities in 2020, including browsing foreign websites. Upon gathering sufficient evidence, Gong was summoned to the Shouning County Public Security Bureau for investigation. It was confirmed that Gong had indeed used "VPN" software to illegally access foreign websites and information, to which he fully confessed.
Based on Article 14 and Article 6 of the Interim Provisions on the Administration of Computer Information Networks in International Networking of the People's Republic of China, the Shouning County Public Security Bureau imposed administrative penalties on Gong.
The national regulations state that any computer information network connecting directly to international networks must use the international gateway channel provided by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications' public telecom network. Any organization or individual is prohibited from establishing or using other channels for international networking. Violations of these regulations will result in orders from public security authorities to cease networking activities, warnings, and fines of up to 15,000 RMB.
