Recently, a video posted by a foreign influencer showing a "luggage weight reduction" trick has gone viral, sparking widespread discussion online. The video shows the foreigner placing 30kg suitcases on the conveyor belt and then discreetly lifting one suitcase with his foot, reducing its apparent weight from 30kg to 20kg without the staff noticing. The video was captioned "Traveler's Lifehack". The video quickly drew attention on social media, with many neitizens expressing their disapproval. Some netizens said, "This isn't funny. If everyone did this, it could cause serious issues during the flight." Others questioned the authenticity of the video, noting, "This is obviously staged for the video. In reality, it's unlikely that two suitcases would be weighed together. Even if they were, the staff would ask you to weigh them separately, one at a time." In a related incident, luggage policies have also been in the spotlight recently. On August 21, at Shanghai Pudong Airport, a female passenger on a Spring Airlines flight to Japan was asked to pay a 700 RMB fee because her carry-on luggage exceeded the size limit by 2 centimeters. The passenger argued with the ground staff at the boarding gate, questioning, "Is Spring Airlines really so poor that they charge 700 RMB for just a 2-centimeter difference?" On August 23, Spring Airlines responded, explaining that the passenger had an allowance of 20 kilograms for checked luggage. When the passenger attempted to bring oversized luggage into the cabin, the staff reminded her several times that she could check it in without incurring any additional fees, as long as it stayed within the 20-kilogram limit (Spring Airlines has no limit on the number of checked pieces, only on the total weight). However, the passenger insisted on her preference not to check the bag. During the boarding process, after repeated attempts to persuade her, the passenger finally agreed to place some of her belongings in a company-provided bag and carry it on board, leaving the oversized suitcase at Pudong Airport under the airline's care.
