Recently, in a residential community in Choujiang Street, Yiwu City, Zhejiang Province, a foreigner suffered an acute cerebral infarction (commonly known as a stroke) and became trapped at home. Firefighters, medical personnel, and police collaborated to carry out the rescue operation.
At 1:58 PM, the Yiwu Fire Rescue Brigade's 119 Command Center received a transfer alert from the 110 Command Center, reporting that the caller's husband had suddenly fallen ill and was unable to move. Locked inside the house, he urgently needed rescue. The command center immediately dispatched the Choujiang Street fire team to handle the situation.
By 2:05 PM, firefighters arrived on the scene. They learned that the caller would be home in 40 minutes, but the smart door lock was malfunctioning. Multiple attempts to input the password were unsuccessful, and the lock was secured from the inside, leaving no quick way to open it other than by breaking it. In the interest of time, and with the caller's consent, Incident Commander Ji Xiongjun organized the team to use tools including crowbars, a cutting machine, and hydraulic equipment to break down the door. Once inside, rescuers found the foreigner lying on his back in bed, with only his left hand and foot showing slight movement. His right side was numb and unresponsive. Medical personnel initially diagnosed him with an acute stroke and recommended immediate hospitalization. The foreigner, who weighed nearly 300 pounds, required assistance to be moved. The combined efforts of fire, police, and medical personnel successfully lifted him, but the stretcher could not fit into the elevator at the building's fifth floor. Due to the narrow stairwell, moving him down the stairs would further delay the rescue. The rescue team, along with community property staff, adjusted their strategy. They carefully moved the man from the stretcher to a sitting position, then transported him via the elevator to the ground floor. Once there, he was lifted back onto the stretcher. By 2:31 PM, the foeigner was successfully transported to the hospital. Medical staff confirmed he had an acute stroke with arterial blockage. The timely intervention and subsequent surgery stabilized his condition.
