Fans have heaped praise on Chinese badminton star He Bing Jiao for her incredible sportsmanship after she held up a miniature Spain flag while receiving her Olympic silver medal on the podium.
Jiao finished in second-place of the women's badminton event in Paris after South Korea's An Se-young beat her 21-13 21-16 to claim gold, but the Chinese star was fortunate to even be in the final.
A semi-final contest against Spain's Carolina Marin saw Jiao heading for an Olympic exit before injury to her opponent forced the tie to be concluded with the China star then winning on default.
Marin was winning the match at the time of her withdrawal and Jiao was keen to share her medal success with Marin while she was being presented with her silver gong.
Standing on the podium at the Port de La Chapelle Arena, Jiao held up a small Spanish flag next to her silver medal as a mark of respect for Marin who was amongst the favourites in the event.
A third post on X stated: 'True Olympian who shows love and compassion for fellow players despite representing different countries. This medal belongs to Marin and He.'
