On July 26, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued a Typhoon Orange Alert at 6:00 a.m. At 9:00 PM yesterday (April 25th), Typhoon "Gaemi," the third of the year, transitioned from a severe typhoon to a severe tropical storm. At 5:00 AM on the 26th, the storm's center was located over Yongtai County in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. The minimum central pressure was 977 hectopascals, and the utmost winds were 10 scales (28 meters per second).
We expect "Gaemi" to continue its northwestward movement at a pace of approximately 20 kilometres per hour, entering Jiangxi Province from Fujian in the late afternoon or overnight today. Subsequently, it will proceed northward with progressively decreasing intensity.
We anticipate heavy rain and rainstorms in regions such as southern Taiwan Island, Fujian, southern Zhejiang, eastern Guangdong, and central-eastern Jiangxi from 8:00 a.m. on July 26th to 8:00 a.m. on July 27th. We anticipate extremely heavy rainfall (250–350 millimeters) in southwestern Fujian.
Guidelines for Precaution:
Governments and relevant departments should implement emergency response measures for typhoon prevention and disaster relief in accordance with their respective responsibilities.
2. Reinforce port facilities to avoid anchoring failures, grounding, and collisions, and advise maritime operations and passing ships in affected waters to return to port for shelter.
3. High-altitude and other outdoor hazardous operations, as well as large-scale indoor and outdoor gatherings, must be suspended.
4. Either reinforce or deconstruct structures that are susceptible to wind damage. When feasible, individuals should avoid venturing outdoors and instead seek refuge in secure shelters. To ensure the safety of the elderly and children, it is important to keep them indoors, particularly in the safest areas of the household.
5. It is imperative that residents of dilapidated structures evacuate immediately. Be aware that strong winds may abruptly resume as the typhoon's centre passes, despite a potential lull or reduction in wind speed. Consequently, it is imperative to evacuate from vulnerable structures and remain in safe shelters.
6. It is critical that relevant regions remain vigilant against the possibility of flash floods and geological calamities caused by heavy rainfall.
