On July 19, Hong Kong and Macau launched a new QR code cross-border service, allowing eligible residents to use QR codes for self-service clearance without the need to present physical ID cards.
Hong Kong residents aged 11 or above, holding either a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card or a Hong Kong Identity Card with the "*", "***", or "R" marks, and who have successfully registered for Macau's self-service clearance system, can activate the "Hong Kong-Macau Cross-Border QR Code" service on the "Non-Touch e-Channel" mobile application. Once activated, Hong Kong residents can generate an encrypted QR code through the application to process entry and exit procedures via Macau's self-service clearance system.
On the other hand, Macau Permanent Identity Card holders aged 11 or above who have successfully registered for Hong Kong's e-Channel service and linked their electronic identity on the "Macau One Account" app can generate a "Hong Kong-Macau Cross-Border QR Code" during customs clearance. This allows them to use Hong Kong's e-Channel for entry and exit. For minors, their "electronic identity" can be linked to their parent or guardian's mobile phone, and during clearance, the parent or guardian can simply swipe left or right on the "My Clearance" QR code interface to switch to the corresponding person's QR code.
The QR code does not contain any personal data, updates every 30 seconds, and cannot be used in offline mode or through screenshots. Residents are reminded to carry their valid Hong Kong/Macau ID cards when using the QR code cross-border service.
