Recently, a man posted on social media claiming that his Shanghai Airlines flight from Haikou, Hainan, was delayed by three and a half hours to wait for 15 foreign passengers. According to the post, the delay affected 141 passengers.
The Umetrip app showed that the flight, originally scheduled to depart at 13:35, actually took off at 17:13, resulting in a delay of 3 hours and 23 minutes before arriving in Shanghai Pudong.
Netizens reacted strongly, demanding a reasonable explanation for the delay.
On the morning of July 27th, Shanghai Airlines addressed the incident via their official Weibo account.
Shanghai Airlines explained that flight FM9256 from Haikou to Shanghai Pudong, scheduled to depart at 13:35 on July 26th, was delayed due to typhoon conditions along the flight path. During the boarding process at 15:00, the expected departure time had been pushed to 16:41. Within the allowed timeframe, ground staff followed procedures to accommodate passengers on the same route who might miss their international connecting flights at Pudong due to the typhoon. Boarding was completed by 15:51, and the flight eventually took off at 17:13 due to weather conditions.
The airline expressed sincere apologies for the delay, the inaccuracies in on-site information communication, and the suboptimal passenger experience. They emphasized their commitment to prioritizing flight safety and passenger rights. The airline plans to conduct a comprehensive review of the operational support process, focus on optimizing passenger service procedures, and improve communication mechanisms. Their goal is to enhance the level of service during adverse weather conditions and provide a more punctual and high-quality travel experience.
