American Deported at Airport as Red Notice Fugitive

In a significant display of international law enforcement cooperation, Chinese police deported a U.S. citizen wanted for alleged child sexual abuse offenses back to the United States.

U.S. law enforcement authorities requested the operation at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on July 10.

The Diplomatic Security Service of the U.S. Department of State escorted the individual, Scott, back to the United States.

This deportation is another milestone in the law enforcement collaboration between the United States and China, following the repatriation of two fugitives accused of grievous criminal activities from the United States to China in June of this year.

U.S. law enforcement had been monitoring Scott since May 2014, when they first accused him of juvenile sexual abuse.

At the United States' request, Interpol issued a red notice for his arrest in October 2018.

Subsequently, the Chinese public security institutions conducted an investigation, which ultimately led to his location and legal detention in China.

Subsequent investigations verified that Scott did not commit any alleged acts of child sexual assault within Chinese territory.

According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Public Security, this operation was a component of a succession of practical collaborations between the U.S. law enforcement agencies and China.

The leaders of both countries reached a consensus during their meeting in San Francisco, which established these collaborations. The following areas of joint efforts underscore the trend of international cooperation in law enforcement: drug prohibition, illegal immigration repatriation, fugitive pursuits, and combating transnational crimes.
