13-Year-Old Girl Pushes 2-Year-Old From 17th Floor, Sparking Outrage

In a heart-wrenching incident in Jiujiang, Jiangxi province, a 13-year-old girl, identified only by her surname Tan, is suspected of pushing a 2-year-old girl, Qin, from the 17th floor of an apartment building, leading to the toddler's tragic death. According to Ms. Wu, the mother of the victim, the suspect and her daughter were neighbors, which adds a layer of tragedy to the already distressing event.

Surveillance footage captured moments before the incident shows a girl in a white dress holding little Qin as they entered the building. The unsettling visual contrasts starkly with the horrifying act that followed shortly after.

On May 30, the Duchang County Public Security Bureau issued a statement about the incident, which occurred on May 26 at approximately 5:17 PM. The statement confirmed that Tan, who has been described as having a cognitive disability, pushed Qin from a window ledge on the 17th floor, leading to the toddler's immediate death upon impact.

Authorities have since taken Tan into custody, and an investigation into this tragic event is currently underway. This incident has sparked a broader discussion on the safety of children and the supervision responsibilities of guardians, especially in high-rise residential areas. It also raises critical questions about the support and management of young individuals with cognitive disabilities within the community.
