On March 29, a video of a foreign resident in Xian, Shaanxi province, refusing to wear a face mask after being called out for it quickly went viral across the internet, showing the man insulting and attacking epidemic prevention workers after advising him to follow government rules.
According to witnesses, the man began verbally abusing staff and hit them with his phone on multiple occasion until police officers finally arrived and took him into custody for questioning.

Following this incident, the Yanta district branch of Xians public security bureau made an official announcement on their Weibo account to report what had happened earlier that day, and took the opportunity to remind everyone to following public laws and regulations in order to ensure everyones safety.
The foreign resident was given an administrative penalty based on Chinas civil law and Law of the People's Republic of China on entry and exit administration, he will be deported.
