COVID-19: List of Countries by Infections % to Population

The total number of infections divided by the total population in that country/region is seemingly an important index to measure the criticality of the pandemic. Here's our second release of the complete list of countries by number of infections in 100,000 people.

In last week's list, in which data was collected March 22 8:40 Beijing Time, the top most infected countries/regions by the number of infections in 100,000 people were:


1- Iceland = 129.8 

2- Luxembourg = 109.1

3- Italy = 88.9

4- Switzerland = 79.9

5- Spain = 52.9

6- Norway = 40.3

7- Austria = 29.9

8- Germany = 26.5

9- Iran = 24.7

10- Belgium = 24.2 


While Britain, U.S. and China came in #30 (=7.5) #31 (7.3) and #33 (5.7) respectively. 7 days went by, and as of 2020-3-28 21:30 Beijing time; the top 10 most infected by population percentage are as follow: 


1- Luxembourg = 261.4

2- Iceland = 244.3

3- Switzerland = 153.8

4- Spain = 153.3

5- Italy = 143.5

6- Austria = 86.4

7- Belgium = 79.2

8- Norway = 70.2

9- Germany = 64.1

10- Netherlands = 55.9


It's notable that the number of infected cases in 100,000 people have more than doubled in the top ten countries; with all 10 countries from Europe. 


Iran have dropped from #9 to #14, while the U.S., the present epicenter of the pandemic, climbed from #31 in March 22 to #18. China,  dropped from #33 to #56; while Britain, whose prime minister was tested positive for COVID-19, climbed from #30 to #26


In East Asia, South Korea dropped from #20 to #31. In Japan, and despite the recent increase in reported cases, mainly in Tokyo, the country ranking has dropped from #73 to #84 in the global ranking. 


Please note that the list doesn't include countries/regions with population less than 300,000, otherwise the top 10 countries/regions would be as follow: 1) San Marino (664.2) 2) Vatican (500.6) 3) Andorra (344.3) 4) Faroe Islands 5) Luxembourg 6) Iceland 7) Gibraltar 8) Switzerland 9) Spain 10) Liechtenstein.
