Reporting to the Artistic Director and Dean, this position is responsible for providing support for the academic and social development of students as well as their overall well-being advising students on matters affecting their scholastic success or personal development; providing student conduct services, problem solving assistance, referral services, and educational programs that contribute to community-building and a climate of inclusion. The position provides leadership and oversight to the Offices of Residence Life and closely collaborates with internal or external counseling services, and other departments reporting under the Artistic Director and Deans Office. If the successful candidate has deep experience in the field of classical music, the position would also include oversight of the Office of Career Services and Entrepreneurship.The position also serves as a key advisor to the Artistic Director and Dean regarding campus policies related to student rights, responsibilities and behavior and will assist with strategic planning, long-term initiatives, and implementation of division assessment planning. Responsibilities: Oversees the Offices of Residence Life, hires, supervises, and evaluates staff. Oversees documentation of office policies, procedures, and protocols. Collects and maintains necessary general health records for students. Locates, evaluates and builds partnerships with local community resources to provide medical care, treatment programs and possibly counseling support to students. Advises students on any matters affecting their overall success in the Graduate School as well as their personal development as needed. Works closely with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and the Associate Dean of Performance to coordinate academic and personal student support as needed. Develops comprehensive student outreach programs that promote student leadership, personal development, health and wellness, cultural competency, and social responsibility. Serves as a key member of the Enrollment Management/Student Affairs Team. Provides leadership and support in the Schools audition and orientation programming and retention initiatives. Designs and recommends strategies, including the implementation of appropriate technology, for expanded and improved student services, assessment and reporting.   Plans and manages the fiscal resources of the Student Affairs departments. Supervises the student conduct administrative team. Oversees compliance and integration of the student conduct process with local laws in the Peoples Republic of China, School policies and policies applicable to higher education in the US such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX Policy, grievance procedures and academic policies relating to student behavior. Chairs The Tianjin Juilliard Assessment and Care Team (the behavior intervention and threat assessment committee including communication with parents, students, faculty and staff with regard to student welfare. In collaboration with a partner medical facility and internal or external counseling services, manages student-related medical, psychological and other emergencies.  On-campus residency is not required. Phone and/or physical accessibility is required weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Performs lead role in overseeing Tianjin Juilliards Food Service Program.  Coordinates activities with the major constituent groups, including, but not limited to, Facilities, Finance, Legal, and Special Events. Maintains an understanding of current ideas, trends, research, technology, and practices pertaining to student services and student development through study and participation in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops. Active member of The Tianjin Juilliard Scholastic Standing Committee, Disability Support Services Committee (DSSC), and the Student Emergency Response Team (SERT). In consultation with the Artistic Director and Dean, reviews requests for utilization of school space and resources for student-led projects independent of the Juilliard curriculum.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements: Bi-lingual fluency in English and Mandarin is required. A Masters degree from an accredited institution of higher education in student developmental services/personnel, student services, counseling, higher education administration, educational leadership or related degree is strongly recommended. A Doctorate degree in one of the above areas is preferred. A doctorate or PhD in music is also acceptable. Work experience in a joint-venture Chinese/US academic program is preferred. Completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree in the US by Chinese nationals is also acceptable. US applicants should have had extensive academic or work experience in China. Applicants should have an understanding of what Student Services looks like in both the US and China. A minimum of Five (5) years of full-time student affairs administrative experience at an accredited             college or university is highly desirable. A minimum of two (2) years should be at a level equivalent to a Director or an Assistant/Associate Dean or higher in student affairs administration. Alternatively, faculty candidates with a doctorate or PhD in music must have at least Five (5) years of administrative and/or faculty experience in an institution of higher education. Candidates with a Masters degree or PhD in Social Work with at least Five (5) years academic administrative experience and knowledge about the performing arts are also acceptable. Demonstrated knowledge of basic principles of student development and educational administration.  Firm understanding of current student services practices and related Peoples Republic of China and US higher education law. A deep appreciation for and preferably some educational or professional background in the arts. A nuanced understanding of Chinese culture. Successful record of administration including assessment, strategic planning, goal setting and the ability to manage systemic change. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, a collaborative management style, innovative thinking, technological vision, strong service orientation, energy, enthusiasm, and demonstrated ability to lead staff. Demonstrated experience and success working in a multicultural environment with a clear understanding of and sensitivity to the issues of diversity in both student and workplace settings. Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment and maintain confidentiality. Must communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and work successfully with all constituencies of the School. Good project management and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated experience using a personal computer, office software such as MS Office and college administrative computing systems. Understanding of and commitment to EDIB (equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging) and the mission of The Tianjin Juilliard School. The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check.
