China Offers Free Legal Advice, Popularizes Laws Amid Epidemic

China's Ministry of Justice has offered free legal advice to individuals and enterprises via hotlines 12348 and websites amid the COVID-19 outbreak, said a ministry official Wednesday.

As of Monday, the 12348.gov.cn had received a total of 4,195 inquiries for epidemic-related legal advice at its ministerial and provincial-level platforms, mainly covering contract disputes, consumer rights and social security, said Xiong Xuanguo, vice justice minister, at a press conference.

Xiong said at the press conference that legal consultations involving contract disputes have increased recently as companies resume production.

The contract dispute mainly is the housing lease contract, the housing contract consults.

The consultation of the housing lease contract mainly focuses on the rent reduction caused by the overdue extension, the termination of the contract, the inability to move house, the failure to settle the rent, and the loss caused by the shops' inability to operate.

In addition, the ministry has stepped up efforts to popularize laws by opening social media platforms, printing manuals, releasing typical cases of behaviors violating laws and regulations, among other moves, Xiong said.
