Nov 14: Unravel: Podcast Finale Encore

Join Unravel as they celebrate the end of Season One of their podcast. Nov 14: The Drums

Deemed the next big thing after the release of their debut self-titled album, which saw them sounding like jangle pop New Order acolytes, and which included standout tracks like Lets Go Surfing and Forever and Ever, reception cooled on The Drums with their later albums, as they became less hook-driven and exploratory. Jonathan Pierce and his band arrive in China with album number five, Brutalism, in the bag.

Nov 14-16: New SHAKE City VI: The 90s R&B Concert

Shanghai's livest 90s R&B party returns for another dose of new jack swing and hip hop soul for the dancefloor. Courtney Knott, Kevin Maxim, and Shake's six-piece band take it back to back in the day with the music of TLC, Jade, Janet, Ginuwine, The Neptunes and more. Dress Code: Supa Dupa Fly.

Nov 15: Poetry in Shorts/Plastic

Local band Poetry in Shorts link up with newly minted Maybe Mars outfit Plastic for an evening of debauchery. Poetry in Shorts are made up of members from legendary Shanghai outfit Dirty Fingers, while Plastic are based out of Kunming and have been turning heads on the east coast with some excellent live shows.

Nov 15: The Kooks

Formed in Brighton in 2004, the rockers first stole hearts with their debut album Inside In/Inside Out in 2006, which included darling tracks like Nave and She Moves in Her Own Way. The pop record would come to define the feel-good sound of The Kooks, and was accompanied by such buzz (it went quadruple platinum in the UK) that the band went on to record a live acoustic version at Abbey Road Studios (you know the one) just a year later.

Nov 15-16: Der Elefantenpups - Ein Tierischer Geheimplan

If youre looking for a fun, interactive and kid-friendly event, youre in luck! The music-filled Der Elefantenpups - Ein Tierischer Geheimplan will be held at Shanghai City Theatre on November 15-16.


This time around, a new animal joins the zoo: a young female panda named Mei Yue. Being in a new place means shes suffering from homesickness and would do anything to be able to return home to China. The zoo animals work together and hatch a secret plan to cheer up Mei Yue. They make music for her with their instruments. In the end, the panda cub is able to happily settle into her new home with her new friends. Throughout the journey, kids can learn about various musical instruments and their unique timbres through a fun and sweet story. Your little ones are sure to love it!

Nov 15-16: China Shanghai International Childrens Book Fair

Calling all bookworms! The seventh China Shanghai International Childrens Book Fair (CCBF) is headed back to town. The event will take place in Shanghai from November 15-17. CCBF is not only a leading copyright exchange hub for childrens books (ages 0 to 16 years), but its the perfect outlet to inspire school teachers, parents, children, book lovers, collectors, illustrators and translators. This year, more than 60,000 new books from 70 countries and regions will be presented as part of a worldwide celebration of childrens reading. Not only can visitors buy a variety of original books but CCBF will offer 200 activities and events during the three-day event.

Nov 15-16: Bar Rouge 15th Anniversary

Nov 16: Neal Brennan Live in Shanghai

Brennan is a prolific performer of stand-up: his first one-hour stand-up special Women and Black Dudes premiered on Comedy Central in 2014. In 2017, Brennan released his second one-hour stand-up special 3 Mics on Netflix to widespread critical acclaim. In 2019 Brennan released an all-new half hour of material on Netflix as part of the Comedians of the World series.
