The Sourcing Director oversees product sourcing, product management, product quality control, inventory control, product marketing, product packaging, and vendor program financial oversight for category programs bought for Retailers. This role will work in conjunction with the Oak Brook based merchandising team in developing these programs.
The Sourcing Director is responsible for ensuring that our overall procurement process allows to meet wholesale profitability goals while maintaining a competitive position relative to all types of optional distribution. This position is also responsible for ensuring that retailers achieve respectable retail profit margins relative to retail competition. The Sourcing Director must be able to fulfill the proper product value equation of service level, quality, and cost.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing all the program negotiations, including product development, market research, pricing, supply chain management, inventory control, advertising, wholesale profitability, retail margin management, and marketing to our customer, the Retailer. This role is responsible for developing and marketing across many regions of the world. This position must be able to develop and maintain a risk mitigation plan to assure a long term supply of critical high velocity product.
The Sourcing Director supervises Category Managers, Quality Control & Assurance and the Graphics & Packaging departments. This position requires excellent leadership skills to provide short and long term vision for the departments through market analysis, data analysis, and intuition. Strong problem solving abilities also play a key role in providing direction for the team.
The role additionally requires a proactive work ethic, relationship-building skills, analytical skills, strategic thinking, communication skills, resourcefulness, the ability to work effectively with cross-functional team members, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
Knowledge & Experience:
10-15 years work experience with foreign companies in the sourcing function
Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and manage others to drive common goals and strategy and achieve continued improvements, results and successes.
Ability to think strategically and cast a vision coupled with a realistic mission
5+ years experience in a retail environment, including background in store merchandising, sourcing, supply chain and customer service.
Global understanding of merchandising best practices/global buying power
Excellent negotiation skills with customers, vendors and ..others?
Must understand different countries and their cultural challenges along with proven ability to work cross-functionally with internal departments
Must be able to uphold high ethical standards for vendor/factory relationships.
Finance experience in budgeting and managing P/Ls
Results oriented ability to drive results and proactively shift efforts as trends and business variables change
Strong organizational and planning skills necessary
Skilled in business math, contracting, report building, supply base research, creating presentations and spreadsheets, utilizing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Fluent in English and Mandarin, both written and spoken.
Bachelors Degree in Business, International Business or related field strongly preferred
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally 35%
