According to the statistics from the Ministry of Education, the number of foreign students in China has risen from 290,000 in 2011 to 440,000 in 2016, while the number of universities receiving foreign students has increased from 660 to 829. Due to this, China has become the largest destination of foreign students in Asia.

The National Overall Plan for Promoting the Construction of World-class Universities and Top Disciplines clearly states that promoting international exchanges and cooperation, enhancing the attractiveness of high-level international students, and expanding the scale of international students has become the core work of national Double-First Class construction.

In 2018, top universities in China, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Renmin University of China, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiaotong University, announced their Double-First Class construction plans, where they vow to be expanding the enrollment, improving the quality of the source and training of foreign students.

According to the statistics of foreign students from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education, Cuaa.net has ranked the Chinas Top 100 Universities for International Students in 2019.
