On August 30, the People's Bank of China issued the fifth set of RMB (2019 edition), which includes 50-Yuan, 20-Yuan, 10-Yuan and 1-Yuan banknotes, as well as 1-Yuan, 5-Jiao and 1-Jiao coins.


The new version of RMB has been upgraded to implement new anti-counterfeiting measures and design.

The fifth set of RMB maintains banknote specifications in the previous edition. The main pattern, tone, bank name and its pinyin, national emblem, Braille denomination mark, and national characters remain unchanged, while the brightness, structure and the anti-counterfeiting performance have been improved.



What's New?


Compared with the current set of RMB banknotes, the new version of the 50-Yuan, 20-Yuan, 10-Yuan and 1-Yuan banknotes have been changed.


The changes included an adjusted head on Mao Zedong, decorative patterns, horizontal numbers on the front side, and main scenes on the back side.


Additionally, the style of denominations on both sides, and increased front and left patterns. One line was removed from the right side, and a pattern on the lower corner was as well. Lastly, the year was changed to display 2019.

As for the coins, the new edition of 1-Yuan and 5-Jiao coins adjusts the style of denominations on the front and shrinks flower pattern on the back. The diameter of 1-Yuan coin has been reduced by 11%, from 25 mm to 22.25 mm, which means it is more convenient to carry and use. Lastly, the material has been changed from a copper alloy-plated core to a nickel-plated steel core.
